An incredibly breathtaking example of Indo-Saracen-style
architecture, the Mysore Palace is a magnificent building
located in Mysore, Karnataka. Also known as Amba Vilas Palace,
it is the former palace of the Mysore royal family and is still their
official residence. The Mysore Palace was built in 1912 for the
24th ruler of the Vodyarov dynasty and is considered one of the
largest palaces in the country.
The construction of the Mysore Palace was organized by
Maharaja Krishnaraja Vadiyar IV, whom Mahatma Gandhi
called “Rajarishi” (holy king). Then it was expanded by his son
and the last Maharaja of Mysore, Maharaja Jayachamaraja Vadiyar.
The facade of the palace is a harmonious combination of Hindu,
Muslim, Rajput and Gothic styles, which gives it a regal quality. From
the east side of the Chamundi hills, the view of the Mysore Palace
is charming.Needless to say, this is the second most visited
historical monument, visited by both local and foreign tourists
after the Taj Mahal. The Mysore Palace Hotel, located inside the
Old Fort, is famous for its light and sound shows and colorful
holidays in Düsser.
