Srinagar

Known as "Heaven on Earth", Srinagar is located in the union

territory of Jammu and Kashmir, on the banks of the Jelum

River. Picturesque like the most stunning painting ever painted,

Srinagar is known for its fixed houseboats and colorful Shikararas

on Dal Lake.

The main attraction of Sringar, the gondola rowing boats, Shikaras,

are used by tourists for sightseeing such as the floating

vegetable market, and Mir Bahris, a vibrant community of people

who live on the lake itself. Known as the summer capital of Jammu

and Kashmir, Srinagar is home to some of the most exquisite

Mughal gardens in India, with major attractions including Nishat

Bagh, Shalimar Bagh and Chashmi-i-Shahi Garden.

The cuisine of Kashmir is known all over the world, so in Srinagar

you should definitely try local dishes that are rich in unique

aromatic spices. Srinagar is also famous for Kashmiri shawls,

Kashmiri apples and dried fruits (almonds and walnuts) that

can be bought at Lal Chowk market.

Heavy snowfall affects the connection of Srinagar during the

winter months from December to February. Communal tensions

also lead to frequent curfews in some parts of the city. Be sure to
