8. Centre Pompidou

is a cultural institution in the Beaubourg district of the 4th district. It
has an extensive public library, the National Museum of Modern Art,
the largest museum of modern art in Europe, a bookstore, a cinema
and a panoramic terrace. The library occupies the first three floors of
the building, while the permanent collection of the museum is located
on the 4th and 5th floors. Ground and upper floors are used for
large exhibitions. The center is named after Georges
Pompidou, President of France from 1969 to 1974, who
commissioned the building.

9. Sainte-Chapelle

Created after 1239, Saint-Chapelle is considered one of the
best achievements of Gothic architecture. Its construction
was commissioned by King Louis IX of France to house his
collection of relics of the Passion, including the crown of
thorns of Christ, one of the most important relics in
medieval Christendom. Despite being damaged during the
French Revolution and rebuilt in the 19th century, it retains one
of the most extensive collections of 13th century stained glass
in the world.

10. Place de la Concorde

On the east side of the Champs Elysees lies the Place de la
Concorde, the largest square in Paris with fantastic views
in all directions. It was on this square that the French king Louis
XVI, Marie Antoinette and many others were guillotined during
the French Revolution. A large 3,200-year-old Egyptian obelisk in
the center of the Place de la Concorde was brought from the Temple
of Luxor in the 19th century.
